Supporting Writing At Home
Our Supporting Writing at Home booklets have been created to help parents and carers work alongside their children at home and better understand how writing develops across each stage of primary school, from EYFS through to Year 6.
Each year-group booklet explains what writing typically looks like at that stage, the key skills children are working towards and how handwriting, spelling, grammar and composition develop over time. They also include simple, practical activities that families can easily build into everyday routines to support children’s confidence and progress as writers.
Writing is closely linked to speaking, reading and language development and small, regular opportunities to talk, read and write together can make a big difference. These booklets are designed to strengthen the partnership between home and school by giving families clear expectations, examples of writing and manageable ideas to try at home.
We hope you find them helpful as you support your child on their writing journey.
